Adult Circumcision
A safe procedure, done by experts at our Downtown Toronto clinic
Adult circumcision is a simple outpatient procedure that removes the foreskin of the penis. While often done during infancy, many men choose to have a circumcision later in life – for cosmetic reasons, personal beliefs, or improved hygiene. At UUA, adult circumcision is performed by experienced urologists who prioritize your comfort, privacy, and healing.
Why Some Men Choose Circumcision
There’s no single reason men choose circumcision as adults. The most common include:
Aesthetic preference – You may prefer the look or feel of a circumcised penis
Cultural or religious significance – Circumcision can carry important personal meaning
Health & hygiene benefits – It may lower the risk of recurrent infections, inflammation, or certain STIs
The Process
Consultation
We’ll meet with you to discuss your reasons, answer questions, and make sure circumcision is the right choice for you.
The Procedure
Performed under local or general anesthesia, circumcision typically takes 30-45 minutes. The foreskin is removed with precision, and dissolvable sutures are used to support optimal healing. The sutures usually dissolve within 10-14 days.
Recovery
You’ll head home the same day. Most men return to light activity within a few days. Full healing will take about two weeks and you can then resume sexual activity.
No. The procedure is done with anesthesia to ensure comfort. Mild swelling or tenderness afterward is normal and typically manageable with over-the-counter medication.
You can return to work and most activities within a few days. Sexual activity should wait until sutures dissolve — usually within 10-14 days. Full healing takes about 4-6 weeks. You may experience increased sensitivity to the head of the penis while healing.
There’s no evidence that adult circumcision negatively impacts sensation, performance, or satisfaction. In fact, some men report improved confidence or comfort after healing.
