Dr. Dean Elterman is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Toronto and a sub-specialist in functional urology. He holds the Lang Family Endowed Chair in Urologic Innovation and was recently named one of Toronto’s Top Doctors of 2025.

Dr. Elterman has been instrumental in advancing the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in Canada, pioneering the introduction of leading-edge techniques such as Aquablation, Rezum, UroLift, Optilume, Optilume BPH, and iTIND. He is the lead author of the Canadian Guidelines for Male LUTS/BPH and has published over 240 peer-reviewed manuscripts.

A recipient of the 2022 SIU Innovators Award, Dr. Elterman continues to lead clinical trials in BPH and neuromodulation, with a focus on delivering minimally invasive, patient-centered care at University Urology Associates.

Research

As an attending urologist at the University Health Network (Toronto), his clinical and research interests include voiding dysfunction, novel technologies for benign prostate enlargement (BPH), sacral neuromodulation, male incontinence, and men’s health.
