Dr. Jack Barkin has been a pioneer in Canadian urology for over 42 years, recognized for advancing minimally invasive treatments and bringing innovative technologies into clinical practice. He led the introduction of HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) for prostate cancer in North America, performing the first treatment on March 12, 2006. Since then, he has trained more than 25 urologists in this technique.
Research
As Chief Clinical Officer at MedTechSyndicates – a group led by physicians dedicated to identifying, investing in, and advancing new impactful medical technologies – Dr. Barkin reviews over 100 innovation proposals each year. This role reflects his ongoing quest to bring the most promising and effective new treatments in medicine, surgery or diagnostics to the forefront, helping to ensure that patients benefit from meaningful advancements in care.
Dr. Barkin has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and has presented over 1,000 worldwide on a variety of urologic topics.
